چکیده

The topic of wind-clumping has been the subject of much activity in recent years, due to the impact that it can have on derived mass-loss rates. Here we present an alternative method of investigating wind-clumping, that of polarimetry. We present simulations of the polarization produced by a clumpy wind, and argue that the observations may be reproduced just by statistical deviations from spherical symmetry when the outflow is only slightly fragmented. Here, the polarization scales with Ṁ , which is consistent with observations of LBVs, WRs and O supergiants. Finally, we find clumping factors in the inner 2R⋆ of ∼ 2− 3, and speculate as to the clumping stratification of hot stars.

Modelling the clumping-induced polarimetric variability of hot star winds

Context. Clumping in the winds of massive stars may significantly reduce empirical mass-loss rates, and which in turn may have a large impact on our understanding of massive star evolution. Aims. Here, we investigate wind-clumping through the linear polarization induced by light scattering off the clumps. Methods. Through the use of an analytic wind clumping model, we predict the time evolution...

Magnetic fields, winds and X-rays of massive stars in the Orion Nebula Cluster

In massive stars, magnetic fields are thought to confine the outflowing radiativelydriven wind, resulting in X-ray emission that is harder, more variable and more efficient than that produced by instability-generated shocks in non-magnetic winds. Although magnetic confinement of stellar winds has been shown to strongly modify the mass-loss and X-ray characteristics of massive OB stars, we lack ...

Clumping in the winds of O-type CSPNs

Recent studies of massive O-type stars present clear evidences of inhomogeneous and clumped winds. O-type (H-rich) central stars of planetary nebulae (CSPNs) are in some ways the low mass–low luminosity analogous of those massive stars. In this contribution, we present preliminary results of our on-going multi-wavelength (FUV, UV and optical) study of the winds of Galactic CSPNs. Particular emp...

فرآیند‌های غالب در تشکیل و تحول مورفولوژی توده‌های ماسه‌ای جلگه خوزستان

One of the evidences of erosion process in the arid regions is wind erosion. Relative flatness, poverty of the vegetation, the dominant winds and alluvial weak formation are the most important intensive factors of the wind erosion. These conditions are in the central regions and the coastal plain in the south of Iran and the enormous sands massive where have been formed, scatter are the result ...
